I hadn't known my husband for more than two months before he started in on me to have a baby. His constant pestering lead to progressively harsher responses from me, starting from"eventually", "someday", "not me, not now", "leave me alone", to "have your own damn baby".

Last Spring something in me started to shift and I became more and more serious about the possibility of having a baby. After months of internal dialog, I finally gathered the courage to share the news with my husband who was expectedly ecstatic. (I haven't told the dogs yet - they are going to be devastated!)

Sharing the news with Loren, my husband, opened the flood gates and I finally started researching what to expect, what to eat, what to do to prepare, and what the birthing process would look like....which at first was pretty anxiety provoking, as I started out by watching "The Business of Being Born" (not recommended as a place to start).

Here I plan to document interesting, perception changing information I come across in what will be a successful journey towards a positive pregnancy and childbirth.

What to pack in the hospital bag?

These are suggestions I pulled together from doing a quick google search and looking through a couple of the pregnancy books I have.  I read through the comments after the posts online and it sounded like for most 2nd time moms the "less is more" approach is what they prefer.  It makes sense to me.  Bringing too much stuff might clutter up a small room - plus Loren will have to tote it all around and carry it out with a new baby and recovering wife.  I already converted the stuff I had packed in a separate baby bag into a large ziplock bag that will fit in my carry on suit case.

These are the essentials that were on the 2nd time mom lists:

Nursing bra and pads
An outfit to wear home
Nipple cream
Lip Balm
*They suggested wearing the hospital gown as anything you wear will get all bloody during delivery

Here's the most extensive list for the hospital bag:

·      id/insurance card
·      birth plan
·      lip balm
·      massage oil
·      lemon for nasuaua
·      essential oils
·      snacks for after birth
·      camera/charger
·      ipad/charger
·      hard candy
·      socks
·      nursing bra
·      nursing pads
·      pads
·      toiletries/personal care items/make up (for showering and grooming)
·      nipple cream
·      pillows/blanket
·      bathrobe
·      slippers
·      cash for vending machine
·      headband/hairties
·      pj's/comfortable clothing
·      shirt that will be easy to nurse in
·      clothing to wear home
·      bathing suit/swim trunks
·      baby memory book for footprints
·      playing cards

Since we're making lists....
